Michael Misa and Ivar Stenberg and Will Smith scored, but the Sharks lost 4-3. San Jose has now lost seven of their last eight.
Period 1
Opening shift, Misa avoids the stretch to Smith, good because it was a tough pass, but then his short pass to Celebrini picked off. Work to do.
1 in: Dickinson now clangs an exit pass off a Stars skate. Execution.
3 in: Yup, execution. Trouba misses an open stretch to Smith. Smith, breaking out, tosses a pass up the middle of DZ, connects with on one. Luckily, no Stars around. Not hurting them so far, but it will.
5 in: Steel has a chance in tight, Dellandrea there just in time, could’ve been worse. But big Nedeljkovic save.
6 in: Lindell pins Misa, he can’t get away. That’s 19-year-old Misa versus a world-class defender. Won’t always be the case. Credit to the top line though, good OZ possession.
Misa goal: What a pass by Celebrini. Celebrini confuses the Stars, maybe, he was about to head off, but puck stayed in the OZ, so he turns back, no one picks him up, and Macklin magic that Misa finishes. First time in nine games that San Jose Sharks have scored first goal in game.
Hintz goal: Not a good penalty by Trouba, turns it to 4-on-3. Hintz sells it. But Trouba goes too much out the way, too obvious. Intention is good, to clear path for Celebrini and Smith on attack. On goal, Kesselring just a sec late, as Hintz jumps on rebound.
Benn goal: Free-flowing action, Goodrow backcheck and puck battle win leads to Gaudette pass to Trouba one-timer, Dallas goes down, other way Misa finds Smith in slot, huge Oettinger save. But then Stars the other way, Smith has a clear-cut clear attempt, weak backhand up wall, trying to hit stretching Celebrini, picked off by Benn. Goes other way, Smith a tick slow covering slot, too. Fine to play fast and trade chances, but when you get your chances, you have to finish, which Smith hasn’t done quite enough this year compared to his (earned by him) volume of chances. And you have to execute what should be 100 percent plays, if you don’t, you put your team in the jackpot.
Robertson goal: Nothing working for Sharks again. Anemic PP, PK allowing the cross-slot pass, Robertson one-on-one versus Nedeljkovic after that pass, and the sniper finishes.
3 left: Misa on PP, trying to circle net and find someone, Lindell just crushes him. That’s a veteran read.
Period 2
Stenberg goal: Hope that’s good for Stenberg’s confidence. San Jose Sharks needed it too. Celebrini just trying to drag his guys along. Forces a tough exchange high, Pohlkamp great dive to stick puck up, 2-on-1. Celebrini keeps D guessing, gives Stenberg pass so the young winger has an hour to make his mind.
4 in: Gorgeous Smith find, passes behind him, sees Celebrini in slot. Big Oettinger save.
Celebrini just took a 60 second shift, spent 7 seconds on the bench and then took a 79 second shift.

Dellandrea penalty: When it rains, it pours. Call me a Dellandrea apologist, but that’s an awful call, Lindell bumped his former teammate into Oettinger. Sharks are struggling too much to be focused on calls, they have enough to worry about it their game, but that’s a bad call. Sharks finally with a kill.
10 in: Sharks falling all over themselves to get puck out, like this desperation.
Harley goal: Long shift for Dellandrea line, but they finally have daylight, Stenberg by himself up the ice, but backing up the Stars…and he doesn’t get it deep. 100 percent play, must get deep there. Stars toss it smartly up the NZ, they know Sharks are trying to change, Nurse reacts, touches it. But these young mistakes are killing the Sharks tonight. PK can’t catch a break.
Smith goal: Must-score 5-on-3, Smith comes through. Gorgeous Marchment pass, draws all three Stars to him.
3 left: Lindell just murdering Misa out there. One-on-one puck chase on PP, Lindell just ragdolls Misa. Misa gets up slow, licking his wounds, that’s gotta hurt. But he also has to move quicker, getting up slow, the PP goes offsides. Not a mistake, per se, but another very young player thing, I think.
Period 3
Celebrini already past 20 minutes played: His career-high with OT is 27:39, in just regulation is 25:41, both set last year. Using Macklin like prime era Pronger is a strategy. Not sustainable, of course, but for a night, and you can tell Macklin feeling it, I get it.
7 in: Pohlkamp skates out of trouble, nice.
Bystedt has played less than five minutes so far, whoa. Dickinson, by the way, nice pocket pass there, want more of that from him.
9 in: OZ turnovers forced by Graf line, but followed by blind plays into slot. Put it in a place where someone can get it along wall, go to work.
9 left: Misa too fast for the puck there. Mind still has to catch to feet. Will happen.
Hryckowian penalty: Impressive by Stenberg, looks like he won’t get away from I think Hryckowian, but kicks it to himself, draws a trip. Hope this game good for his 5-on-5 confidence. Disappointing power play though.
