Then in the hours leading up to the game in San Francisco, Magic guard Desmond Bane was ruled out because of an illness.

Missing three starters, Orlando didn’t back down, fought hard throughout the night and forced overtime inside Chase Center. But the Magic fell short in the extra five-minute period on the road in a game that featured 10 lead changes.
Behind 41 points from 11-time All-NBA guard Stephen Curry, the Warriors escaped on top, 126-119, to earn their seventh straight victory and hand Orlando its fourth straight loss.
Trailing the Warriors 110-108 with less than 30 seconds remaining in regulation, Magic forward Jamal Cain (18 points) tipped in an offensive rebound that sent the game to overtime tied at 110.
Tristan da Silva’s fifth 3-pointer of the night gave Orlando a 118-117 lead with 2:24 left in overtime. Curry then converted an and-one opportunity to put Golden State back in front for good, 120-118, at the 1:38 mark of the extra period.
Despite a combined 86 points from Franz Wagner (30), da Silva (19), Wendell Carter Jr. (19) and Anthony Black (18), the Warriors (7-3) outscored the Magic 16-9 in overtime.
The Magic (2-7) continue their four-game road trip on the West Coast at Sacramento on Tuesday night. Orlando travels to Utah the following night.
Slow startDa Silva made his first start of the season when he opened alongside Jase Richardson, Black, Wagner and Carter at Golden State.
The Warriors scored the first six points of the game and eventually took a 23-9 lead with four minutes remaining in the first quarter.
Orlando went more than five minutes from the 8:01 mark to the 2:42 mark of the opening quarter without scoring. Golden State took a 31-19 lead at the end of the 12-minute period when only three members of the Magic scored (Wagner, da Silva and Cain).
Richardson never found his footing on offense when he missed all six of his 3-point attempts and shot 1-for-13 from the floor for just two points in 30 minutes.
Third-quarter pushTrailing by 16 points at the half, the Magic punched back in a major way in the third quarter.
Layups from da Silva and Goga Bitadze got Orlando within two points of the Warriors, 69-67, with 4:33 left in the third quarter. A pull-up jumper by Jase Richardson tied the game at 69 and a 3-pointer from da Silva gave Orlando its first lead at 72-69 with 3:23 remaining in the frame.
The Magic went on a 20-5 run that stretched from the 6:08 mark of the third down to the 49-second mark of the quarter. Black scored 11 of his first 13 points in the frame while da Silva added 10 of his first 13.
After not leading once in the first half, Orlando held a 78-77 lead entering the fourth quarter.
Contributions from Cain and CarterCain scored eight in the first quarter by sinking two late 3-pointers and adding a two-handed slam dunk with less than a minute left in the opening frame.
The Magic forward was active on the glass with 12 rebounds and he added one steal and one block on defense. The performance marked the first double-double of Cain’s NBA career.
In addition, veteran guard Jevon Carter (nine points) hit back-to-back 3-pointers that powered an 8-0 second-quarter run. He later hit a third 3-pointer in the same frame.
Still, Orlando’s bench was outscored 42-31 by Golden State’s reserves, who were led by 11 points from Georges Niang (3-for-3 from distance).
Second-chance scoringAlthough the Magic weren’t accurate from 3-point range on a night they shot 18-for-54 on the perimeter (33%), they did a solid job crashing the offensive glass.
For the night, Orlando held a 24-3 advantage in offensive rebounding, which led to extra scoring chances.
The Magic outscored Golden State 33-2 in second-chance scoring and shot 12-for-22 in the second-chance opportunities. Wendell Carter Jr.’s offensive rebound and putback layup tied the game at 98 with 3:54 left in the fourth quarter.
