Manchester United's final game before the international break, against Aston Villa, will be crucial to Michael Carrick's future at Old Trafford.

Matheus Cunha will take the plaudits from Tuesday evening, having won the penalty, scored the equaliser, and scored the winner, despite being sent off in the final minutes.

With Marcus Rashford still injured, Cunha seems destined to start against Aston Villa, but Michael Carrick has some big calls to make for the rest of his Manchester United side.

Senne Lammens made an error on Evanilson's goal in the last Premier League match at Old Trafford, but his place is not in doubt. However, it is not as straightforward ahead of him.

Patrick Dorgu has returned to training and could make the matchday squad this weekend, meaning Manchester United could field a more natural left-back rather than Diogo Dalot. But with Leny Yoro playing well on the right, Carrick is likely to stick with the Frenchman and Dalot as his full-backs.

Lisandro Martínez is suspended after his red card against Chelsea, which could see Ayden Heaven keep his place alongside Harry Maguire if Matthijs de Ligt isn't ready to start again, as he continues his comeback from injury.

Michael Carrick will have to make a change in midfield after Carlos Baleba's hamstring injury against AS Roma.

Youri Tielemans replaced the Cameroonian and will likely do so again after an impressive cameo from the bench.

Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes will keep their places in the starting XI, with Andrey Santos and Mason Mount remaining on the bench.

Further forward, Matheus Cunha seems a shoo-in on the left flank, but Patrick Dorgu will also be competing for a spot. Perhaps the Dane will appear from the bench after a period on the sidelines.

With Benjamin Šeško seemingly out until the new year, Bryan Mbeumo will keep his place at centre-forward, despite Joshua Zirkzee's promising substitute appearances.

Amad will be hoping for another start on the right wing, but Shea Lacey's performance against AS Roma should be rewarded with a start. The youngster assisted Matheus Cunha's winner before playing as a makeshift right-back after the Brazilian's red card.

Amad has not scored since Manchester United's 4-4 draw with AFC Bournemouth before the African Cup of Nations in December 2025, with his last assist vs Como in the Champions League.
