After falling behind by 10 points in the first quarter, the Seminoles responded with timely plays on both sides of the ball and leaned on a group of emerging contributors to rally for a 31-24 victory over Boston College on Saturday. The win snapped FSU's three-game losing streak and ended a frustrating 12-game road skid that dated back three seasons.

The victory also marked a successful debut for interim coach Rick Stockstill, who described the matchup as a "street fight" earlier in the week. His team answered that challenge, overcoming an early deficit and playing with resilience throughout to secure a much-needed road victory.

Here's how the Seminoles graded out after Saturday's performance.

Ashton Daniels C-

It was not Daniels' cleanest or most efficient outing, but he delivered enough plays to help FSU earn the win.

Daniels completed 15 of 26 passes for 178 yards and an interception while adding 38 rushing yards and a touchdown on the ground. His mobility helped extend drives and create opportunities for playmakers such as Micahi Danzy and Jasen Lopez.

There were mistakes. Daniels held the ball too long at times and committed an intentional grounding penalty late in the fourth quarter after trying to avoid a sack. Still, he managed the game effectively and helped guide the offense in critical moments.

Offense (A)

Despite being without key playmakers Ousmane Kromah and Duce Robinson, the Seminoles found answers.

Danzy and Lopez emerged as major offensive contributors, frequently creating explosive plays and helping move FSU into scoring position. The running game also found success behind Tre Wisner and Amari Thomas.

Thomas, making his first start, led the team with 86 rushing yards and two touchdowns. The offensive line also deserves praise after overcoming the loss of starting center Bradyn Welch Joiner, who exited with an injury. The unit remained steady and helped power an offense that scored 31 points on the road.

Defense (C)

The defense struggled early before settling into the game.

Boston College controlled the line of scrimmage during the opening quarter and raced to a 10-0 lead behind a physical rushing attack. FSU adjusted and played with greater discipline as the game progressed, producing several key stops that shifted momentum.

Ja'Bril Rawls was among the defensive standouts, recording three tackles and an interception in the third quarter. However, the Seminoles continued to have trouble containing Boston College quarterback Mason and running back Bo MacCormack III, who eclipsed the 100-yard mark on the ground.

The defense was far from dominant, but it made enough plays when they mattered most.

Special Teams (B)

The game's biggest momentum swing came from special teams.

Just before halftime, special teams coordinator Adam Sheier dialed up a fake field goal that resulted in a Gabe Panikowski touchdown run and gave FSU a 21-17 lead. The successful gamble energized the Seminoles and shifted momentum heading into the locker room.

The unit was not flawless. Ethan Post, who started over Daniel Hughes, struggled with a few early punts that gave Boston College favorable field position. Even so, the fake field goal and other timely plays outweighed those miscues and helped tilt the game in FSU's favor.

Coaching (A)

The coaching staff delivered a strong performance in its first game following the departures of Mike Norvell and Tony White.

Stockstill kept the team focused despite the adversity surrounding the program, and the Seminoles never appeared rattled after their slow start. Offensive coordinator Tim Harris Jr., calling plays for the first time, crafted a game plan that emphasized his available playmakers and avoided unnecessary complications.

Defensively, Ernie Sims shifted FSU into a four-man front after the team spent much of the season operating from White's 3-3-5 scheme. While the results were mixed at times, the adjustments helped the Seminoles settle in after a rough opening quarter.

Most importantly, the coaching staff had the team prepared to compete for four quarters and put itself in position to win.

Overall Grade: B+

It was not a perfect performance, but it was a significant step forward for the Seminoles.

FSU showed resilience by overcoming an early double-digit deficit, received meaningful contributions from several young players and made the critical plays necessary to win on the road. For a program searching for momentum amid a turbulent season, Saturday's victory provided a glimpse of a tougher, more confident team capable of responding to adversity.

The challenge now is building on a breakthrough road win and proving this performance was the start of a turnaround rather than a one-week spark.
