Hawks retired as Oakland's baseball coach on May 1. He was the winningest coach in Rutherford County history, taking over Oakland's program in 1990. He spent 37 seasons with the Patriots, piling up 760 wins and two state championships. Hawks was also inducted into the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2014.
In his final season at Oakland, the Patriots went 9-24, losing to Rockvale in the District 10-4A tournament. On May 27, former Independence baseball coach Mike McLaury was named Oakland's coach.
“Building a successful program takes more than talent on the field. It takes outstanding coaches, a commitment to player development and a shared vision for where the program is going,” Webb School's Executive Director of Athletics Bill McClain said. “We are excited to bring Mack, Scott and Brady together. Their experience, investment in our student-athletes and commitment to Webb give us a strong foundation as we build for the future.”
Last season, Webb went 29-15, losing to St. George's, 7-2, in the Division II-A state baseball tournament.
