Jets' Jarvis Brownlee addresses benching and team fine

The New York Jets kept the reason for Jarvis Brownlee Jr.'s absence against the Miami Dolphins in-house, but the cornerback has now filled in some of the blanks himself. He acknowledged Thursday that he was benched and fined by the organization after missing multiple mandatory team meetings.

Brownlee told ESPN that he missed more than one meeting and received a letter from the team notifying him of the financial penalty. He couldn't recall the exact amount but made it clear he understood why the organization took action.

"No doubt, no doubt. Just accountability," Brownlee said.

Those were Brownlee's words when asked about accepting the discipline. He also explained that the circumstances surrounding the missed meetings were personal and something he needed to address.

"It was just something in-house, some things I had to get right," he added.

The disciplinary action explains why Brownlee was inactive for New York's 28-25 loss to Miami. Rookie D'Angelo Ponds took his place in the secondary, while head coach Aaron Glenn declined to discuss the specifics of the decision, saying he wanted to keep the matter private.

Brownlee indicated that he's good for Sunday's matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders, suggesting he could return to the lineup. The cornerback has recorded 14 tackles and one sack across six appearances this season. For Brownlee, the immediate priority is moving forward. The Jets have made their expectations clear, and his response will now be measured by how he handles his responsibilities and performs when given another opportunity.
