After being sidelined against the LA Clippers due to a back issue, Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncicwas off the team’s injury report ahead of their upcoming game on the road against the Golden State Warriors on Friday. Prior to Wednesday’s win against the Clippers, Lakers head coach JJ Redick acknowledged that Doncic’s status was nothing overly concerning, just precautionary as the team heads into a stretch of five games in seven nights.

In addition to Luka Doncic, the Lakers might get forward Ziaire Williams back from injury as he was listed as questionable against the Warriors. Williams also was ruled out against the Clippers in similar precaution. The sixth-year wing signed with the Lakers in the offseason via free agency, and has been among the team’s most consistent players to this point as a starting forward.

With Doncic back in the lineup, however, the on-court antics are certainly going to draw headlines as much, if not more, than the actual basketball. During the Lakers’ season opening win against the Warriors back on Oct. 21, Doncic was engaged in a trash-talking battle with Warriors rookie Yaxel Lendeborg. Doncic got the better of that matchup, which included burying a half-court bomb to beat the halftime buzzer.

After the game, both players acknowledged the chatter throughout the game, but Lendeborg took it a step further, proclaiming he had lost respect for Doncic due to his perceived complaining to the officials. Lendeborg was hit with a technical foul during the game, with teammate Draymond Green coming to his defense about.

For the Lakers, the return of their star player is a much welcome development. The Slovenian native has gotten off to a blistering start to the season, and is among the early MVP candidates. He dropped a season-high 52 points last Sunday to help the Lakers grab a come-from-behind win against the Utah Jazz, and he followed that up with a 41-point effort despite a loss to the Portland Trail Blazers.

Across the first four games of the season, Doncic is averaging a league-leading 36.0 points, 6.8 rebounds, 8.3 assists and 1.3 steals with splits of 48.4 percent shooting from the field, 39.6 percent shooting from the 3-point line and 87.5 percent shooting from the free-throw line. He is also currently leading the league in 3-point shots made and attempted, and free-throws attempted.
