With reports coming out earlier this week that Vince Russo had held talks with WWE, and specifically WWE President Nick Khan, earlier this year, there's now an update on all of this.

For those who missed it, Russo had several conversations with Khan this summer, complete with him either having visited WWE HQ or having been under consideration to visit WWE HQ. News of those conversations did not make it to wider WWE staff at the time, and influential names laughed off the idea of a return for the former WWE head writer when hearing of such talk.

It was PWInsider who initially reported the Russo/Khan talks, and the outlet now adds that these conversations were initiated by Vince Russo. The former WCW World Heavyweight Champion reached out to Nick Khan to see about a potential role with WWE, though nothing came from those overtures. A WWE source confirmed to PWInsider that there was never a point in 2026 when the company was looking to hire Russo, with one other source joking that Vinny Ru will soon be "milking" this topic for his podcast, and jokingly suggesting he might end up signed to a WWE Legends deal alongside recent signee Necro Butcher.

Vince Russo was previously with WWE from 1992 until late 1999, moving from freelance WWF Magazine writer to WWF Magazine editor, to the creative team, to the head of creative, and then jumping ship to WCW, where he'd remain until the company was purchased by Vince McMahon. An uber-brief WWE return would follow in 2002, before Russo instead moved to TNA, where he'd work on and off until 2014. Most recently, Russo had been involved as a writer, investor, and on-screen talent for Juggalo Championship Wrestling, though he announced his JCW departure last month.
