The mugshot does nothing for accused child abductor Somerda Miclescu.
In it, the “mother of the year” looks stoned, puffy-eyed, and stunned.
The 22-year-old Miclescu, a failed Romanian refugee claimant , allegedly abducted her three children from the Midland Ave. and Eglinton Ave. E. area of Scarborough last Friday. Cops say the kids, Daniel, 6, Irina, 3, and four-month-old Anastasia were having a semi-supervised visit with a relative when their mother took them and went on the run.
Refugee claim was torpedoed by Canada
Cops say she fled in a since-recovered 2017 White Ford Expedition SUV with Ontario licence plate DJJS 875. With her and the kids is a man believed to be her boyfriend, Ionut Stroe , 25.
Sources painted the pillow-lipped alleged perp Miclescu and Stroe as real treats.
“Surprise! She’s a gypsy engaged in criminality in both the U.S. and Canada. She’s also wanted in California,” one source told the Toronto Sun . “She tried to make a refugee claim in Canada but was ineligible and she has multiple outstanding charges here. Two of those charges include assaulting a peace officer.”
When she allegedly snatched her three children, Miclescu did not have legal custody of the three kids.
“The reason she doesn’t have custody of her kids is because they were taken away and the reason for that is because they were in her car while she was allegedly committing crimes,” the source alleged.
Ionut Stroe — called a person of interest in the abduction — offers a similarly dreary CV. The 25-year-old allegedly owns the getaway vehicle.
Came here ‘then he went on a crime spree’
“It’s the same story with him. Came (from Romania) and made his refugee claim and then went on a crime spree,” the source said. “Stroe also has many outstanding charges, including B&E, theft, wearing a disguise … just to name a few.”
Indeed.
Stroe was one of five people arrested and charged following a slew of jewelry store break-and-enters in Hamilton and elsewhere across the province. In one caper, Ancaster Jewellers was dinged for $60,000 in merchandise that was stolen on Nov. 17, 2025.
Cops say the crooked clan would scope out the targets then strike overnight. One would wait in a getaway van, four or five others would enter the store and steal high-end watches, jewelry and repair tools.
Detectives suspected the gang was responsible for similar jewelry store break-and-enters in Brantford, Guelph, Niagara Region, Peel Region, Quebec and other jurisdictions. In addition to Stroe, others charged were Silviu Moraru, 36, Ion-Ciprian Constantin, 30, and Mircea Drezaliu, 36, and Vasile Vasile, 36.
Also wanted for failing to comply with release order
And now, he’s allegedly on the run with Miclescu and her three kids. Stroe is also currently wanted for four counts of failing to comply with a release order.
As of the weekend, Toronto cops said there was no information or indication that Miclescu, Stroe and her children had fled the country. Police sources believe they are likely still in the GTA.
Miclescu is described as 5-foot-7, 180 pounds, with long, dark black hair and was last seen wearing a long black skirt and a dark-coloured top. She is wanted for abduction by parent. Cops said Stroe is 5-foot-11, 235 pounds, with a tattoo on his right forearm.
“We don’t have any information right now that would lead us to believe that the mother is going to hurt or harm the children in any way,” TPS Const. jeff Allington told the Toronto Sun last weekend.
