Behind the scenes, Tom Brady differs from what some might think of an NFL legend.

According to The Athletic, Lars Anderson spoke with various people from multiple stages of the 49-year-old athlete’s life, including friends, former teammates, and enemies, to write his biography, Brady: An American Story and the Price of Greatness, which was released in September. Brady himself did not participate in the book.

Former New England Patriots offensive tackle Matt Light said in the book, “He’s a little bit of a soft kitty in some man categories. But Tommy can chug a beer,” per the outlet.

Light, 48, played with Brady on the Patriots for about a decade from 2001 to 2011.

Meanwhile, Jed Weaver, who joined the Patriots in 2004, was surprised by the seven-time Super Bowl champion’s thoughtfulness toward his parents.

“I played for four different teams in my career, and guys around the league would say, ‘Tom Brady is a pompous [expletive] who thinks he’s so cool,'” Weaver, 50, admitted in the book. “But ask my parents what they think of Tom Brady. He blew their minds. I was a backup tight end who’d only been around a month, and he treated my parents like they were very important people in his life.”

When Brady saw Weaver’s parents outside the locker room, he approached them and said, “Great to see you again, Tom and Rhonda. Did you enjoy the game?” according to the book.

Brady has described himself as a “shy” person, as Anderson quotes him in the book: “If I had a choice, I would probably fade off into the background.”
