Fantasy football is much easier when you have a reliable running back leading the way. These Week 8 running back rankings are all about redemption for stars who disappointed in Week 7. Last week, both the Falcons and Lions won their games. However, that came at the cost of Bijan Robinson and Jahmyr Gibbs leaving fantasy points on the table. Now those superstars, and a handful of other running backs, will fight to reestablish themselves this weekend.
The Texans, Saints, Giants, and 49ers are all on their bye in Week 8. That means fantasy stars like Christian McCaffrey and Cam Skattebo will not be options for your team this week.
These are the running backs who you can rely on in Week 8 of the 2026 fantasy football season.

Week 8 Top Fantasy Football Picks
Josh Jacobs (vs. CAR)
Jerome Miron-Imagn Images.Jacobs showed fantasy managers several positive signs during his return against the Lions in Week 7.
The veteran running back only managed 11 carries for 36 rushing yards on the ground. But he snagged five receptions for 55 yards and a touchdown through the air. What’s more, he dropped what could have been a game-winning touchdown late in the game.
From a fantasy football perspective, it is great to see Jacobs getting so much work in the passing game. If that maintains in Week 8, and he can get back on track on the ground, then Jacobs could be the start of the week.
The Packers just so happen to be hosting the Panthers on Thursday Night Football. Carolina has allowed more rushing yards per game (153.2) than any other team in the league this season.
This is the perfect get-right game for Jacobs. Start him with confidence this week.
Kenneth Walker III, KC (at DEN)
The Chiefs will be out for blood in their Week 8 matchup against the Broncos.
Kansas City completely no-showed against Seattle, and that includes Walker. He only managed 9.7 fantasy points after rushing for just 36 yards with 21 receiving yards. That will not be the case again in Denver.
Remember, the Broncos have allowed 133.3 rushing yards per game so far this season. They are vulnerable against a back like Walker on their best day.
Add on that Walker has been a fantasy stud before Week 7 (20+ points in every game before then) and this becomes an easy decision.
Bhayshul Tuten, JAX (vs. IND)
Tuten is a high-floor running back who can play an important role on anyone’s fantasy football team. He has legitimate boom potential in Week 8.
Once again, it comes down to the matchup. Indy does not have the best run defense unit, allowing 124.4 rushing yards per game this season. But forget the stats and consider how easily this game could become a blowout.
The Colts traded Quenton Nelson on Tuesday and are going full fire sale before the trade deadline. That doesn’t sound like a team that will put up much of a fight. Instead, the Colts seem destined to crumble against their division rival.
Fantasy managers should expect a big game from Tuten in Week 8.
Week 8 Fantasy Football Sleepers
Rhamondre Stevenson, NE (at MIA)
There’s not reason to get too complicated with this one.
Stevenson is still the lead back in New England, though Josh McDaniels is enjoying using all three running back this year. But Stevenson has remained a solid option more often than not. That said, he is pretty firmly in “boom or bust” territory.
Fortunately, the Patriots will take on the Dolphins in Week 8. Yes, Miami did get their first win against New York last week. That does not mean they are suddenly a good team or especially capable at stopping the run.
This game could easily get out of hand and feature plenty of carries for Stevenson in garbage time. Stevenson could easily put up plenty of fantasy points before that point anyways.
Don’t overthink it and trust the easy matchup here.
Chase Brown, CIN (vs. TEN)
It’s been a minute since Brown had a truly good game on the ground.
Cincinnati’s lead back hasn’t gone over 100 rushing yards this season. He’s only managed double-digit fantasy points in three games as well. So why is he a sleeper in Week 8?
The Titans look like a good defensive team, but the stats paint the picture of a unit that is easy to run on. There’s also the strong possibility that Chase feasts on dump off passes from Joe Burrow as an extension of the running game.
Either way, this is the week to count on Brown to finally have a solid fantasy performance.
Javonte Williams, DAL (vs. ARI)
This is not a suggestion that Williams will repeat his Week 7 domination again in Week 8. But let’s put some respect on his name.
Javonte enters Week 8 as RB7 and has put up over 20 fantasy points three separate times so far in 2026. He gets plenty of touches and even gets involved in the passing game each week. It is completely reasonable to have faith in Williams purely based on what he’s already produced thsi season.
Beyond that, Arizona looks like a sputtering team in recent weeks that lacks a clear direction. They may put up a fight, but Dallas simply has more to play for right now.
Fantasy managers can count on Javonte delivering for them once again against the Cardinals.
Week 8 Fantasy Football Running Back Injuries
Fortunately, there aren’t too many running back injuries to worry about in Week 8. Both Christian McCaffrey and Cam Skattebo picked up minor injuries last week, but they are each on their bye.
The biggest injury worth noting is Vikings running back Aaron Jones. He picked up a knee injury in the fourth quarter of Week 7. Jones reportedly avoided a serious injury and is considered day-to-day. That leaves the door open for him to return in Week 8 against the Lions.
However, fantasy managers should still keep an eye on his status throughout the week. If he misses multiple practices, or is a limited participant, then Jordan Mason could end up being the lead back instead of Jones.
Also, keep an eye on Kyle Monangai in case he finally returns from his thumb injury and turf toe.
