For the first time, the ceremony will be staged in the English capital, with the London Palladium hosting the 70th edition of the awards.

The decision to move the event to London pays tribute to England legend Sir Stanley Matthews, who became the inaugural winner of the Ballon d’Or in 1956.

Here is everything you need to know ahead of the ceremony.

When and where is the Ballon d’Or ceremony?

The 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony will take place at the London Palladium on Monday, October 26.

The main ceremony is scheduled to begin at 8pm UK time and will be hosted by Arsenal and France legend Thierry Henry alongside presenter Kate Scott.

As well as the men’s and women’s Ballon d’Or, awards will be handed out for the best young players, goalkeepers, coaches, clubs and strikers in both the men’s and women’s game.

How can I watch the Ballon d’Or?

UK viewers will be able to watch the ceremony live and for free on DAZN, although an account is required to access the stream.

The ceremony will also be available through the official Ballon d’Or website, with coverage throughout the evening.

Who are the favourites for the men’s Ballon d’Or?

England captain Harry Kane heads into the ceremony as the bookmakers’ favourite after a remarkable goalscoring season for Bayern Munich and helping England reach the World Cup final.

Kane is looking to become the first Englishman to win the award since Michael Owen in 2001 and only the fifth English winner in its history.

Barcelona and Spain star Lamine Yamal is considered one of his biggest rivals after another outstanding campaign which included winning La Liga and the World Cup with Spain.

Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé is also firmly in contention after another prolific year and winning the World Cup Golden Boot, while Lionel Messi is among the other leading names in the race.

Who are the favourites for the women’s Ballon d’Or?

Alexia Putellas is the clear favourite to win the women’s award and claim the trophy for a third time.

The Spain midfielder enjoyed another hugely successful campaign with Barcelona before making the move to London City Lionesses.

Former Barcelona team-mate Ewa Pajor is viewed as her closest challenger after a prolific season in front of goal, while the shortlist also includes England stars Alessia Russo and Alex Greenwood.

Last year’s awards were won by Ousmane Dembélé and Aitana Bonmatí, with their successors set to be crowned in London on Monday night.
