Love posted a lap of 27.336 seconds at an average speed of 131.694 mph around the one-mile Arizona oval. His performance was enough to put him ahead of the competition and secure the 11th pole position of his career and his second of the 2026 season.
Love Puts Himself in Position for a Big Night
The pole is an important result for Love as he continues chasing another championship. Entering the Phoenix race, Love sits just two points behind championship leader Sheldon Creed, making every position and every point valuable as the season approaches its conclusion.
Starting first gives Love an opportunity to control the opening laps, avoid some of the traffic deeper in the field and establish himself as a contender early in the race.
However, qualifying is only the first step. Phoenix Raceway is known for challenging drivers with its changing track conditions, tight corners and difficult passing opportunities. Maintaining track position and making the right adjustments throughout the race will be critical.
Love and the No. 2 Richard Childress Racing team will need to execute throughout the evening if they want to turn their qualifying success into a victory.
Brandon Jones Starts Alongside Love
Brandon Jones will join Love on the front row after qualifying second with a lap of 27.576 seconds. William Sawalich qualified third, followed by Sheldon Creed in fourth and Taylor Gray in fifth.
Creed’s fourth place starting position makes him another driver to watch, particularly with his narrow championship lead over Love.
The Timberland PRO 200 provides Love with an opportunity to gain ground in the standings while building momentum toward the season’s final races.
Can Love Turn the Pole Into a Win?
Love has already demonstrated that he can compete at the highest level in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series. Now, he will have to back up his qualifying performance with a strong race-day effort.
With a championship within reach and a front-row starting position secured, Love has plenty of reasons to be confident heading into Saturday night.
The defending champion has put himself in a strong position. The next challenge is delivering when the green flag drops at Phoenix.
