When it comes to the Portland Trail Blazers, Micah Nori’s system is just getting started. Unfortunately, Portland’s forward situation is becoming more problematic, as the Trail Blazers’ rotation may have to rely too heavily on Deni Avdija and Toumani Camara.

For the 2026-27 NBA season, it seems the Blazers have made some noise because of their backcourt duo of Damian Lillard and Ja Morant. They have the star power to raise this team’s ceiling, but people need to remember they aren’t the only players on the team.

They also have a strong supporting cast led by Avdija. However, that might also be one of their issues, as Portland’s rotation is short-handed on the wings. The Blazers’ forward problem is bigger than most people realize, and that could get worse if either Avdija or Camara suffers an injury.

The Blazers’ Forward Problem Could Come Back To Bite Them

While everyone was talking about how stacked Portland’s rotation is at guard, it feels like the forwards were ignored. Beyond Avdija and Camara, the Blazers have Sidy Cissoko as a positive player due to his defense and energetic hustle, which have made him a fan favorite.

Beyond him, the Blazers have a few forwards who could crack the rotation, including Vit Krejci, Jeremy Sochan, and Micah Potter. They are all decent players, but they might not be the best solution for the Blazers’ forward problem. If any of them can elevate their games, that would be magnificent, but they do not look like world-beaters yet.

The ceiling is extremely high because of Avdija and Camara. They provide everything Nori loves to see. They are not only effective at both ends of the floor but also showcase leadership and stability that the other players might struggle to demonstrate.

Avdija was just an All-Star in the 2025-26 season, while Camara is one of the league’s best defenders. Replacing them with players who struggle on either end could be a big problem.

Portland’s Rotation Is Still Quite Limited

When Shaedon Sharpe suffered an injury in the offseason, the Blazers’ forward problem got even worse. While Sharpe is mostly deployed as a shooting guard, most people would infer that he would have played plenty of minutes at small forward given the roster construction.

The Blazers’ forward problem is what is limiting Portland’s rotation. With their guards, they have four big names: Lillard, Morant, Jrue Holiday, and Scoot Henderson. They are all tremendously talented players who will play massive roles this season.

At the same time, the center spot is also quite stacked with Donovan Clingan and Robert Williams III leading the charge. After them, they have Yang Hansen and Branden Carlson, who have the potential to be quality depth pieces.

That leaves Nori’s system starved of forwards. Considering the Blazers had the full mid-level exception available in the summer, it definitely feels like they missed an opportunity to sign a reliable forward like Rui Hachimura in free agency.

The Last Word

The Blazers’ forward problem will be a season-long issue for Portland’s rotation. As a first-time head coach, Nori will face yet another huge challenge. However, Nori will be prepared because he has shown that he can make tough decisions during preseason.

The Blazers’ forward problem will likely be a major issue in the event of an injury, but general manager Joe Cronin can still make moves during the season. Whether it’s a trade or trusting some of the Blazers’ players to break out, it will be an interesting season. However, the priority for the Blazers is to get the most out of their forwards while still maintaining their health throughout the season.
