Wide-man Vinícius for his part featured from the off yesterday evening, as Real Madrid kicked their continental campaign back into gear in a Champions League meeting with AS Roma.
When all was said and done, Los Blancos enjoyed an outing to remember, recovering from two goals down courtesy of a last-gasp ‘Remontada’ at the Stadio Olimpico.
Vinícius, however, played no part in the comeback. Amid another underwhelming individual showing in Italy’s capital – including a direct mistake for one of Roma’s goals – the 26-year-old was hauled off before the hour mark.
Vinícius’ woes did not go at all unnoticed on the part of the travelling Real Madrid supporters in attendance at the clash, with the Brazilian having been targeted with boos and whistles on a number of occasions on Wednesday.
Speaking to the media post-match, ‘Viní’ was himself therefore drawn on the reception afforded to him by the Blancos faithful. And the attacker was honest in his response, admitting:
“The whistles from the fans do not help me; I’d rather they supported me… but I understand, they pay for tickets. I’d rather they boo me than the youngsters.”
