A man trapped inside a sinking vehicle in an upstate New York lake was rescued by a state trooper and a Good Samaritan last week.
In bodycam footage recently released by New York State Police, a trooper is seen rushing to Cross Lake Marina in Cato, N.Y., last Sunday, responding to a report of a vehicle sinking at the boat launch with a man trapped inside.
According to police, an officer identified as Trooper Christopher Cady immediately went into the water and used a glass breaker to smash the sinking vehicle’s sunroof. With help from another person at the scene west of Syracuse, the cop then frees the man.
In the clip, the officer asks the man if he’s OK and checks to see if anyone else is inside the car.
“The quick actions of Trooper Cady and the citizen who stopped to help prevented what could have been a tragic outcome,” police said in a Facebook post .

No serious injuries reported
The Cato Fire Department was also called to the scene and identified the Good Samaritan as Dan Titus, the owner of Cross Lake Marina.
“Fortunately, nobody was seriously injured, just a few minor cuts,” the fire department said in a Facebook post .
It also said the cause of the incident was unknown, but crews had difficulty removing the vehicle and trailer from the water.
“Unfortunately the trailer became lodged under the dock — despite many, many attempts of removal without ruining the owner’s dock, reinforcements needed to be called so that the trailer could be removed,” the Cato Fire Department said.
“This is why it is very important for us to train in the water as much as out because you never know what emergency we may face.”
