The fourth edition of the event brings together men’s and women’s teams from University of Texas, University of Washington, University of Pennsylvania and the University of St. Andrews. Two rounds of stroke play on the Jubilee Course will crown the individual champions and determine the pairings for Wednesday’s medal-match-play finale on the Old Course.
On the men’s side, Texas opened in 5 under par, four shots clear of host St. Andrews at 1 under. Washington sits another stroke back at even par, leaving just one shot between the Saints and Huskies heading into the final day of stroke play. Penn stands at 10 over.
Bennett holds a two-shot individual advantage over Washington’s Brock Maulding, who carded a 4-under 66 to match his career-low round. After a bogey at the opening hole, Maulding responded with five birdies to put himself firmly in contention. Teammate Hamish Farquharson also made an early move, birdieing four of his first seven holes on his way to a 3-under 67 and a share of third place.
On the women’s side, Texas posted a 5-under opening round to build a six-shot lead over Washington at 1 over. Penn and St. Andrews are tied for third at 5 over, four strokes behind the Huskies in the chase for a place in the championship match.
Ounap provided the day’s standout women’s performance. The Scotland native eagled the third hole and added birdies at Nos. 1, 5, 6, 12 and 18, closing with a birdie to complete her 66.
