“Yeah, we were really good. The Cardiacs Chevy from HFT was really fast, but yeah, just didn’t get the finish we deserved.”

The Blue Cross NC 300 was scheduled for Saturday but was pushed to Sunday evening by rain from the remnants of Hurricane Isaias. MotorBiscuit covered the weekend’s schedule changes. Mayer started fifth in the No. 41 Chevrolet and ran near the front for much of the race.

A crash involving Brent Crews on Lap 186 brought out a late caution. The final restart came on Lap 191 of 200. Mayer restarted 14th on older tires and had a late incident with Jeremy Clements.

He finished 24th, one lap down. Mayer was seen hitting the roof of his car after climbing out.

Asked about his frustration, Mayer took aim at the rest of the field.

“Everyone in the series sucks. There’s nobody worth anything past 10th place, and it’s atrocious. I hate it. It’s annoying. Just gotta be better. I don’t know.”

He said the late-race crashes have become a pattern.

“I mean everyone just crashes at the end of these races, and it just doesn’t make sense to me. Like we can’t go another 10 laps without hitting each other.”

Mayer said the race had been clean until the closing laps.

“It was a clean race, all race, and at the end of these races, everyone just loses their mind, and it’s just pathetic.”

Mayer did not name any drivers in his comments. He was involved in one of the late incidents himself, with Clements in Turn 4.

Corey Day won the race by 0.728 seconds over Jesse Love. It was Day’s second straight win. MotorBiscuit covered Day’s win at Las Vegas the week before.

Mayer is now sixth in the Chase standings, 59 points behind leader Sheldon Creed. Four races remain.

Mayer drove for JR Motorsports before joining Haas Factory Team. He will return to JR Motorsports in 2027 to drive the No. 1 Chevrolet. Denny Hamlin recently called the O’Reilly Series financially fragile, saying many of its drivers pay for their rides.

Mayer will have four more chances to make up ground in the NASCAR O’Reilly Series Chase as the motorsports season nears its finish.
