Houston Makes a Major Move to Help C.J. Stroud

The Houston Texans have made one of the biggest moves of the NFL season, acquiring wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. from the Arizona Cardinals in a trade announced Sunday. Houston is sending a 2027 second round pick and a 2027 sixth round pick to Arizona in exchange for Harrison and a 2027 seventh round selection. The deal gives the Texans a talented young receiver looking for a fresh start.

Cardinals Move On From Former Top 5 Pick

Harrison was selected fourth overall by Arizona in the 2024 NFL Draft after a standout college career at Ohio State. Expectations were enormous for the son of Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver Marvin Harrison, but his time with the Cardinals never developed as hoped.

Harrison caught 62 passes for 885 yards and eight touchdowns as a rookie. His production dropped in 2025, when he recorded 41 receptions for 608 yards and four touchdowns in 12 games.

His start to the 2026 season was even more disappointing. Through four games, Harrison had just five receptions for 85 yards and one touchdown. He was inactive for Arizona’s Week 5 matchup against the Detroit Lions as the trade was finalized.

For the Cardinals, the deal provides additional draft capital as the organization looks to reshape its roster. Moving Harrison now allows Arizona to receive valuable picks rather than continue waiting for his production to improve.

Texans Give Harrison a Fresh Opportunity

Houston is hoping a change of scenery will help Harrison rediscover the potential that made him one of college football’s biggest stars. The receiver will reunite with quarterback C.J. Stroud, his former Ohio State teammate.

The two played together in Columbus during the 2021 and 2022 seasons. Their previous connection could help Harrison adjust to his new offense and build chemistry with Stroud more quickly.

Harrison will join a receiving group led by Nico Collins, giving Houston another potential playmaker capable of stretching the field. The Texans have struggled to start the season, and adding a receiver with Harrison’s talent could provide a much-needed boost.

A Fresh Start for Both Sides

The trade represents a major turning point for Harrison’s young NFL career. Houston is betting that his talent and previous success will translate into better production, while Arizona is choosing draft picks over another attempt to develop its former first-round selection.

Now, Harrison has an opportunity to prove that he can become the star many expected him to be when he entered the league. If he develops a strong connection with Stroud, the Texans could benefit significantly from taking a chance on the young receiver.
