Ben Johnson was named the Chicago Bears head coach 21 months ago.

And in the time since, much of his talking has been aimed at his rivals to the north — the Green Bay Packers.

On Sunday, the Packers had plenty to say themselves.

First, Green Bay routed visiting Chicago, 31-7, in an important NFC North clash that left both teams at 3-2. Afterwards, a handful of Packers fired back at Johnson and the Bears.

“They’re still little bro, man,” Green Bay nickel back Javon Bullard said of the Bears. “They’re still little bro. Sometimes big bro got a show up and that’s what we did.”

Packers right tackle Anthony Belton agreed.

“That’s the mentality you’ve got to have, big dog mentality,” Belton said. “And we think we’re the big dog. Today, we were definitely the big dog.”

Heading into the 1992 season, Chicago was definitely the big dog and held an 80-57-6 advantage over Green Bay. Today, the Packers lead 110-98-6.

Green Bay is now 53-18 against Chicago in the last 71 meetings, having swung things a remarkable 35 games in just 34 ½ years. Green Bay head coach Matt LaFleur also improved to 13-3 against Chicago.

Johnson poured plenty of gas on the fire from the second he was named Chicago’s head coach on Jan. 21, 2025.

At Johnson’s introductory press conference, the Bears’ coach — who had been the offensive coordinator in Detroit — said: “To be quite frank with you, I kind of enjoyed beating Matt LaFleur twice a year.”

Johnson proceeded to:

• Win two of his first three meetings with LaFleur, both in dramatic fashion. Chicago rallied from a 16-6 deficit with 2 minutes left in Week 16, 2025, and prevailed, 22-16, in overtime. The Bears then overcame a 21-3 halftime deficit and defeated Green Bay, 31-27, in the NFC Wild Card round.

• Screamed “F*** the Packers. F*** them,” after Chicago’s playoff win over Green Bay.

• Took part in three brief, icy handshakes with LaFleur in 2025.

• And said, “Who likes the Packers?” during the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine.

LaFleur refused to engage in any verbal warfare with Johnson, instead saying: “This game is about players,” LaFleur said Monday. “And so we’ll keep it about the players.”

But Green Bay’s players were quick to punch back Sunday afternoon.

“All that talking they had and all that stuff, it don’t mean nothing,” defensive tackle Karl Brooks said. “At the end of the day, you’ve got to line up and play football, and that’s what we did.”

And quieted down their oldest rival for at least one afternoon.
