Three FIRs against LoP Rahul Gandhi for ‘assaulting police’ during protest demanding CEC resignation

At least three first information reports have been filed against Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi for allegedly assaulting police personnel and obstructing them during the India bloc’s protest against the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on Wednesday, The Indian Express reported on Thursday.
Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has also been named in the FIRs.
The two Congress leaders have been booked under sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita related to assault on police personnel, obstruction of government work, pushing and manhandling, and misbehaviour with police personnel, ANI reported.

Earlier in the day, Gandhi had said the Congress would continue its fight despite the legal cases against him. “Every FIR is a medal on my chest,” he said. “Right now, there are 45, my goal is 100 – even then, we will keep fighting to defend the Constitution.”
The cases came following a tense standoff on Wednesday between the police and Opposition MPs after they travelled towards Jantar Mantar to stage a protest demanding Kumar’s resignation.
