The New York Knicks are like every other team around the league, trying to figure out exactly what is best for their roster. However, there is a little bit of a distraction for New York right now, as Karl-Anthony Towns is trying to get a contract extension.

He knows he will have to take a pay cut; it is just a matter of how much. Recently, he revealed that he doesn’t believe what they are offering values him enough.

“Simply put – I want to do something to keep the team together and can work with the Knicks and also values me. And none of those things are close to happening," Towns said.

While that is a big deal for Towns, head coach Mike Brown is focused on figuring out how he is going to set up his rotations this season. On Wednesday, practice was sloppy, so Brown went off on his team, which he shared with the media.

“The starters, they gon’ play. Everybody else in the gym, you’re fighting to make the team or for minutes. This has nothing to do with last year’s team. Every day is a competition,” Brown said.

The intensity has only gone up from the Knicks head coach. However, he has a right to do so, as the organization signed a lot of new faces to create a competitive culture at training camp.

“Earlier this week, the Knicks agreed to Exhibit 9 deals with five players: Ochai Agbaji, Bruce Brown, John Konchar, Drew Eubanks, and James Wiseman. The Knicks only have two roster spots open and are approaching the second apron, so there's more at stake than just performance and fit during the preseason for this group," SI's Max Wildstein wrote.

Brown knows that if the team is going to want to repeat as champions, they are going to have to turn the urgency up. They are now the hunted instead of the hunters. If New York gets too comfortable, they won’t be able to achieve their goals.

Brown is setting the record straight that no one has an established role outside of his main guys, which is the right thing to do. The competitiveness at practice should pick up now, as their head coach has called them out.
