The Delhi Election Commission on Wednesday said that it will organise special camps to ensure that voters whose homes have been demolished recently are not excluded from the special intensive revision of electoral rolls.

This came amid concerns over deletions of names from the electoral rolls during the voter list revision exercise. The Election Commission has directed the 20 states and Union territories where the exercise has concluded to conduct a special drive to enroll voters who were “left out” of the electoral rolls, The Indian Express reported.

In Delhi, 47.7 lakh voters were removed from the draft electoral rolls prepared as part of the SIR. The draft list has 97.5 lakh voters. The names not included in the draft roll account for 33% of the Union Territory’s electorate.

Those removed from the voter list were marked as either permanently shifted, deceased, absent, duplicate entries or placed under the “other” category. It was unclear what the “other” category referred to.

Verification of such cases is to be completed by October 29, while the final electoral rolls are slated to be published on November 4.

The Delhi Election Commission said special camps would be held at schools and universities across the capital on Wednesday and Thursday, followed by camps at all polling stations on Friday and Saturday.
