The Philadelphia 76ers are starting to gear up for what should be an incredible next couple of years for the city. The team has put together quite the roster, and the starting five is one of the best ever assembled.
Philadelphia is right there this season as a title contender. However, bad news struck in their first preseason game when Ariel Hukporti went down with an Achilles injury.
“Sixers center Ariel Hukporti will undergoing imaging on his right Achilles on Tuesday after exiting Monday early, Nick Nurse said. If Hukporti has a serious injury, PHI would need to do some maneuvering with its roster to replace him,” ESPN’s Dave McMenamin wrote.
On Tuesday, the worst possible news came from the injury. It was reported that the seven-footer will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a torn Achilles tendon.
“An MRI confirmed Tuesday that Ariel Hukporti suffered a torn right Achilles tendon Monday in the preseason opener, according to the Sixers. Hukporti will undergo surgery later today. Further updates will be provided as appropriate, the team says,” McMenamin posted.
Hukporti was going to be a big depth piece for the 76ers, but this unfortunate injury happened to him. On Monday, NBA insider Brett Siegel announced that his surgery was successful in repairing his Achilles.
“Ariel Hukporti underwent successful surgery to repair his ruptured right Achilles tendon and will miss the 2026-27 season. The 76ers will provide further updates on his status throughout his recovery process,” Siegel wrote.
This is not the way anyone planned for his season to end so early, and it is devastating for the seven-foot center. He was going to have a good role with Philadelphia, so it hurts to watch his season end the way it did.
The 76ers will undoubtedly be playing this season for Hukporti, who the guys really enjoy having on the roster. Philadelphia will try to find a way to sign another center, but chances are looking slim. This is just a devastating injury for the seven-footer.
