One week after what was his best performance of the season, if not career, Michigan's quarterback made costly mistakes in a disastrous loss that's thrown U-M's entire season off course. The offense crossed the 50-yard line just twice all afternoon and managed only 11 first downs on the day. Underwood was under durress much of the second half, getting sacked three times, including twice in the fourth quarter. But his un-doing was the back-to-back interceptions in the second half.
First, he stared down JJ Buchanan and never saw Andrew Marsh running up the sideline uncovered for what could've been a walk-in touchdown. Then, on the next offensive snap, he kept the ball on a run-pass option and tried to throw to Channing Goodwin, only he was up-field blocking with his back to the ball and the pass floated into the hands of a Gophers defensive back. Michigan ran just 11 plays total in the second and third quarters combined as the offense was out-possessed 37:36-22:24.
Underwood started the game completing 6 of 7 passes then connected on just four of his final 14.
