Delhi Metro shuts 11 stations ahead of protest calling for CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation

Entry and exit at 11 Delhi Metro stations were shut on Friday, ahead of a proposed protest at Jantar Mantar to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar for alleged irregularities in the electoral process.

The affected stations include Lok Kalyan Marg, which is near the prime minister’s residence, Rajiv Chowk, located at Connaught Place, and Patel Chowk and Janpath near the Jantar Mantar protest site.

Stations at Central Secretariat, Seva Teerth, Mandi House, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, INA, Chawri Bazaar and New Delhi are also shut.

Interchange facility will remain available at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, New Delhi and Central Secretariat stations.

The All India Students’ Association, which is the student wing of Communist Party of India (Marxist–Leninist) Liberation, has called for a protest at Jantar Mantar at 11 am.

They are demanding action against Kumar and have raised concerns about the functioning of the Election Commission and its handling of the special intensive revision of electoral rolls after The Indian Express’ September 23 investigation.

The newspaper had reported that Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi had formally objected 14 times in 10 months to decisions by the poll panel related to the special intensive revision, saying some had been taken without their knowledge.
