Here are three things that I want to see during Notre Dame’s upcoming game against North Carolina in Chapel Hill…
AN OFFENSIVE LINE AWAKENING
The Notre Dame running game has been under attack by fans and media alike throughout the first four games of the season. The initial takes centered around who was running the football, but after more serious and in-depth analysis, the entire running game operation has been an issue. There is plenty of room to get better, and this week could be the week to get it done.

The quickest way to heal an issue with the running game is for the offensive line as a unit to go out there and just absolutely maul dudes — and that’s what I want and am looking for this week. I want to see the offensive line go up against this UNC defensive line (which has some talent) and wipe them off of the map. Physical brutality and violence towards the beef across from you, would allow the running game to quickly get to a place we want it to be.
ZERO F**KS GIVEN
There’s an old adage about trick plays and going for it as the result of being desperate — but it doesn’t have to be like that. In fact, Notre Dame under Marcus Freeman has shown itself to be more than willing to push the envelope and make the risky calls needed. Freeman says his wife hates it… but I think most of the fanbase kind of loves it.
Notre Dame isn’t desperate. Trick plays and 4th down attempts are a part of what this program has become. The way Notre Dame’s defense has been playing this season, it’s like having an insurance policy. This entire mindset (nurtured by Freeman) allows for the Irish to go out there against teams like North Carolina and go nuts — and I want to see it.
MY NAME IS JONAZ
Notre Dame has slowly brought Jonaz Walton into the mix at running back, and last week against Purdue, the freshman carried the ball 7 times for 61 yards. One of those carries was a 44 yarder that brought back the nostalgia of Jadarian Price and Jeremiyah Love… and I want more of it.
This isn’t an indictment of Nolan James or Aneyas Williams — it’s just a proclamation that Walton looks like a guy that can house it from further away than 25 yards, and I wouldn’t mind a bigger piece of that cake.
