‘Dumb’ – Red Sox fans are furious with Chad Tracy’s decision to pull Payton Tolle in Game 1 loss

The Boston Red Sox were emphatically beaten by the New York Yankees in the opening game of their Wild Card round tie.

It was not even close in the end as the Yankees scored seven of their nine runs in the final two innings.
However, there are a lot of Red Sox fans who will be waking up this morning feeling that the game was turned on its head when Payton Tolle was taken out of the game.
Tolle only lasted 4.2 innings, which only returned one run for the Yankees.
The 23-year-old pitcher allowed five hits, but also secured four strikeouts, with a homer coming on the first at-bat following Tolle’s exit.
Naturally, this left Red Sox fans furious.

Erik Miller came in to replace Tolle at the mound, with Ben Rice taking full advantage to double the Yankees’ advantage.
Fans took straight to social media following Rice’s homer, with many left frustrated by Tolle’s exit from the game.
‘Literally smelt this coming it was palpable when they pulled him. It was a base hit prior just finish the inning, dumb,’ said one Red Sox fan.
‘Best hitter in the lineup and you put one down the middle…. What did you expect him to not swing?! Smh,’ added another on X.
Miller pitched just 0.1 of an inning, with the Red Sox immediately changing it up again after watching Rice hit home the straight-down-the-middle pitch.

‘What is the point of taking out Tolle to bring in a worse lefty?!?’ replied another baffled fan.
The Red Sox remain at Yankee Stadium for the second game on Wednesday night, where they will be hoping to keep the series alive.
‘Awful call,’ one frustrated fan replied.
‘Let’s pull Tolle and throw a middle middle fastball to Ben Rice. Amazing plan,’ said another.
