Sergio Perez Responds to F1 Fan’s Warning Over Franco Colapinto ‘Hell’

Sergio Perez has a funny response to a F1 fan’s prayer involving Franco Colapinto and the social storm that could follow.

\nThe last time F1 saw a dreaded fan war took place when then Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton was in battle against Red Bull’s Max Verstappen for the drivers’ title. It was a bloodbath on social media, with the 2021 decider and follow-up showing the worst side of fandom culture.
\nAt that time, too, Perez had to face some burn being associated with Red Bull. Things since then have settled very much apart from a few skirmishes involving fans of Lando Norris & Oscar Piastri either against each other or against the fans of Verstappen and Red Bull.
\nColapinto’s Fans Lashing Out
\n \nBut since last season, the Argentinean fans of Colapinto have been in news for the wrong reasons. Yes, they are big in numbers and really behind the Alpine F1 driver, but for others, not so much. The likes of Yuki Tsunoda and even Perez faced the brunt of it last year already.
\nThis year, the FIA stewards have seen their worst side, along with Colapinto’s teammate Pierre Gasly and most recently, McLaren’s Norris, after the happening in F1 Azerbaijan GP. The comments from the Brit irked the fans of Colapinto, even though it was the Argentinean who initiated the incident.
\nNorris apologised for his harsh comments, while Alpine released a statement as well. In the meantime, F1 fans on social media pray that there is never a heated incident involving Cadillac’s Perez and Colapinto. In general, Mexicans and Argentineans have a go at each other often.
\nPerez Provides Some Comic Relief
\nThe two South American nations have their own history, even Brazil, for that matter. Amid all the dramas, Perez had a funny response to a fan’s prayer, who didn’t want an incident involving the two drivers.
\n“Everyday I pray that Checo and Colapinto don’t crash into each other, because the day that happens, Twitter now X) is going to be hell,” it said in translation. Perez responded with a photo of him and Colapinto, presumably from the F1 drivers’ briefing at the Azerbaijan GP, providing some relief in tense times.

The Argentine will certainly be under pressure in this weekend’s Bahrain GP in Malaysia, but would want to make amends with a sound result for Alpine, in their battle against Racing Bulls in the F1 constructors’ battle.
