De’Von Achane injury update: MRI confirms Dolphins’ worst fears

· Yahoo Sports

Miami Dolphins star running back De’Von Achane left Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs with an apparent knee injury and head coach Jeff Hafley didn’t have a promising update immediately after the contest.

“To be very honest with you, it does not sound very optimistic at this moment,” Hafley said. “But I can’t give you any other details until I have them.”

Achane took his third rushing attempt of the game 11 yards around the left end but was tackled awkwardly by Chiefs safety Alohi Gilman. He eventually left the field under his own power, but was escorted into the locker room for additional testing.

He ultimately returned to the sideline, but without his shoulder pads and helmet and was forced to watch the rest of the 24-10 loss from the sideline.

Fewer than 24 hours later, the unfortunate news was confirmed in a MRI.

Achance suffered a torn ACL and will be out for the rest of the season, according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Before leaving Sunday’s game, Achane racked up 17 yards on three carries and failed to bring in his only target.

With backup running back Jaylen Wright sidelined with a stinger, the Dolphins turned to second-year tailback Ollie Gordon II, who ran for 41 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. He added three receptions for 14 yards.

With just two running backs active for the game, the Dolphins also turned to wide receiver Malik Washington, who had two carries on the afternoon.

“We felt good with Malik in that third spot,” Hafley said of the wideout. “When you look at the entire roster, every move we make affects another position … There’s always so much that goes into it and we felt good with Malik.”

Wright is listed as the No. 2 running back on the Dolphins depth chart and thus would be the likely starter when he returns to the active lineup.
