Tony Ferguson Just KO’d A Guy Who Didn’t Want To Be There

Former UFC interim champion Tony Ferguson continued his successful Misfits Boxing run, but Saturday’s win came against a late replacement who didn’t look like he wanted to fight. Ferguson scored a second-round TKO win over Mahmoud Sebie to retain his Misfits Boxing middleweight title. Sebie had one foot out of the ring midway through the first round. Ferguson was taking this dead serious from the beginning. His focus and edge in experience led to the victory. Here’s the stoppage. Let’s talk boxing.

The official time was 42 seconds of the second round at the James L. Knight Center in Miami. Ferguson is now 3-0 in Misfits Boxing and made his first successful defense of the middleweight title. Sebie took the fight on four days’ notice after Kenzo Biyong withdrew with travel issues. On the shot that hurt him early in the second, Ferguson said, “I needed something to wake me up, and it did.”

Sebie is a former Olympic wrestler who also competed in MMA. His lack of boxing experience was apparent. Even with that lack of experience, he appeared to drop Ferguson with a wild left hook in the first round. That was ruled a slip, but it looked like a legit knockdown. Moments later, Sebie simply stopped fighting with just over 10 seconds left in the round. Ferguson teed off on him and Sebie seemingly nosedived to the canvas. It was a strange sight.

In the second frame, Sebie hurt Ferguson, but was too exhausted and seemingly disinterested to take advantage.

After the fight, Ferguson was called out by influencer-turned-boxer Austin McBroom. Ferguson didn’t know who he was, but McBroom got in the ring and formally called out the UFC legend. Based on what I’ve seen from McBroom and Ferguson in the boxing, the latter could be in trouble. If he was hit and stunned twice by Sebie, McBroom could hurt Ferguson badly. His speed, youth and power figure to be way too much for Ferguson. We’ll see what happens, Ferguson should consider stopping while he’s ahead. Then again, who am I kidding? He’s not going to do that.
