NASCAR’s Corey Heim Jumped by Treyten Lapcevich’s Racing Team After Both Drivers’ Racecars Collide at Martinsville Speedway

Corey Heim was jumped and punched by Treyten Lapcevich’s racing team, as seen in footage shared on social media, moments after he took second place during a race at Martinsville Speedway in Virginia.

In the moments before Caden Kvapil won the 2026 ValleyStar Credit Union 300 in Ridgeway on Saturday, Sept. 26, Heim, 24, and Lapcevich, 22, appeared to have a tense battle for second place, during which Heim’s vehicle appeared to make contact with the rear of Lapcevich’s vehicle, allowing Kvapil to pass him for the win. 

Even after they passed the checkered flag, footage shows the NASCAR racers’ vehicles making contact as they drove side-by-side, ultimately sending Heim’s car into the air and over the hood of Lapcevich’s vehicle. Both cars sustained major damage.

After the collision, Lapcevich climbed out of his racecar and began to march toward Heim before car owner Chad Bryant stopped him, as seen in videos shared to social media. 

“I really don’t know. He tried to smush me into the curb and then my tire hopped his tire,” Heim said of the incident, per NASCAR. “As you can see, I’ve got nowhere to go. He just completely turns left and then I hop his tire, so I don’t know what he was doing. It is what it is. It’s Late Model racing.”

Shortly after the race came to an end, footage shows members of Lapcevich’s Chad Bryant Racing team, including the team owner, approaching Heim and immediately throwing punches at him in front of the speedway’s hot dog stand.

Although some of the crew members appeared to attempt to hold him back, Bryant continued to throw punches at the racer. Heim held out his arms in self-defense while trying to back away and de-escalate the situation. 

While the altercation was ultimately broken up, Heim later addressed the incident on social media.

“Solid effort, but at least make it count next time 😂,” he wrote on X alongside a photo of himself giving the camera a thumbs-up.

For his part, Lapcevich claimed that he “wasn’t interested in fighting.” Rather, he said that he wanted to talk to Heim about what happened after they crossed the finish line. 

“I was pretty calm even by the time I got to our pit stall there,” he said, per Short Track Scene. “I mean, just disappointed, obviously.” 

“Disappointed in Corey as a racer, a person. Obviously, angry about what he did on the track there,” he continued. “He was running into everyone all night. Like, you saw him, how he was racing with Caden, how he was racing with Lee. Like, Cup guy or not, it doesn’t matter to me, and we’re all the same out here when we get to the track.”

Corey Heim Racing declined to comment on the incident, and Chad Bryant Racing did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
