Commanders' Week 3 injury report brings bad news while Seahawks feature a big return

The Washington Commanders received good news Friday morning when GM Adam Peters appeared on the Sports Junkies and updated fans on quarterback Jayden Daniels.

“As of right now, surgery is not on the table, and we haven’t discussed IR (injured reserve),” Peters said on Friday. “So, it’s just a matter of how we’re going to get him back on the field, and that’s still to be determined.”
Unfortunately, Daniels had already been ruled out of Sunday’s home opener against the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks. Daniels dislocated his left (non-throwing) elbow in last week’s 37-20 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. It’s the same elbow that Daniels dislocated last November.
Marcus Mariota will start at quarterback for Washington on Sunday.
Daniels isn’t the only injury that the Commanders are dealing with. Strong safety Nick Cross was injured last week, played every snap, but stayed overnight in Dallas before flying home on Monday with what head coach Dan Quinn called an internal injury. Cross was ruled out earlier this week, too.
There was good and bad news on the other players injured in last week’s game: left tackle Brandon Coleman (finger), defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw (shoulder/back), and right guard Sam Cosmi (concussion). Coleman practiced all week and will play. Kinlaw missed practice Wednesday and Thursday but will play Sunday. Cosmi remains in the NFL’s concussion protocol, leaving the Commanders with a massive void on the offensive line.
Also out this week is linebacker Frankie Luvu (groin) and tight end Chig Okonkwo (hamstring). Both were injured in Week 1 and missed last week’s game at Dallas.

That means the Commanders will be without five starters (seven if you count star left tackle Laremy Tunsil, who was injured in training camp and cornerback Trey Amos). Not ideal when facing the undefeated defending Super Bowl champions. A team that jumped out to a 31-0 lead over Washington last season before winning 38-14.
While the Commanders enter Sunday’s game with numerous injuries, the Seahawks got some good news. Starting quarterback Sam Darnold returns to the lineup after missing Week 2 with a glute injury. Darnold completed 21 of 24 passes for 330 yards and four touchdowns in Seattle’s win over the Commanders last season.
The Seahawks will have two players out: safeties Julian Love and Ty Okada.
