Piel a Piel: A Ceremony That Strengthens Rojiblanco Identity

The pride and identity that come with wearing the Chivas jersey are built from the youth categories up. With that belief in mind, a new edition of “Piel a Piel” was held this Thursday, an annual event where young players from the Cantera Rojiblanca receive the official jerseys they will wear throughout their development process.
The ceremony took place at Estadio AKRON and brought together players from the 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016 age groups. The message was clear: wearing this badge comes with great responsibility, and representing Guadalajarawith determination on and off the pitch, as Juan Pablo Magallón, a player from the 2013 age group, emphasized:

“We’re all Mexican, and whenever we face a challenge, we have the opportunity and the personality to turn the situation around simply because we are Chivas.”
The event also featured members of Guadalajara’s sporting structure. The dais was led by Javier Mier, Sporting Director of Chivas; Jesús Sánchez, Sporting Delegate; Mariano Varela, Director of Football for Tapatío; and Alejandro Castro, Director of Institutional Football.
Javier Mier highlighted the significance of "Piel a Piel" and the importance of understanding everything it means to reach this point.
“Piel a Piel was created to give value to what it means to defend this badge. It’s important to understand what it means to be here today, everything we’ve been through and everything it has taken to reach this moment to represent the biggest team in Mexico.”
The Sporting Director also spoke about one of the main objectives of the Cantera Rojiblanca: developing footballers and people capable of representing the institution’s values.
“We have the responsibility of developing great players, but also great people. The person goes hand in hand with the player.”
The Pride of Wearing the Colors
Meanwhile, Alejandro Castro, Director of Institutional Football, emphasized that wearing the Guadalajara jersey means carrying history, commitment, and a constant dedication to hard work.
“Wearing the Chivas jersey means history and commitment. You have to be proud to wear it every day. Identity is built through commitment and hard work on every pitch we step onto.”
The Message from the Chivas First Team
The academy players also received a message from someone who has already walked part of that path: Hugo Camberos, a First Team player.
“I arrived with the dream of representing the First Team, and today I defend this jersey with everything I have. Chivas doesn’t just develop you as a player, but also as a person. That’s why I give everything in every training session and every match. I hope that one day I’ll see you all in the top flight as well.”
Camberos also highlighted the role families play throughout this process.
“The support your parents give you is fundamental. They are a very important part of this entire process.”
A Development Process That Goes Beyond the Pitch
The commitment to holistic development was also reflected in the words of Elena Alfaro Rodríguez, a parent, who highlighted the importance of supporting young players and working alongside the Rojiblanco institution throughout their development.
“Our support will always be there for them, leaving behind a legacy of the culture that comes with defending this badge. Together with the club, we are partners in our children’s development, with the goal of developing great footballers, but above all, great human beings.”
