KALAMAZOO — Officially, Western Michigan football is 2-1 in the 2026 season. According to many in the college football world, they're undefeated.
That includes Boise State coach Spencer Danielson.

Western's controversial loss to No. 18 Michigan in Week 1 has been the point of debate for many around the country after replay officials added an extra second following a failed Hail Mary attempt, opening the door for another attempt and Michigan's eventual win.
In the eyes of the leader of WMU's next opponent, there isn't any debate.
"I saw a little bit of what happened in the Michigan-Western Michigan game early on. When I went back and studied this, unbelievable. They're an undefeated football team, period, end of story," Danielson said at a press conference on Monday. "I don't care, all the stuff that they can and can't, but you watch that game, they absolutely beat Michigan at Michigan, and that's not hype. That is what happened."
Boise State plays at Western Michigan on Saturday, Sept. 26, a game that carries major implications for the Group of Six automatic qualifier spot in the College Football Playoff, with both Boise and WMU on the brink of the top 25 rankings. The Broncos also lost in Week 1, a narrow defeat at then-No. 2 Oregon.
