Aaron Donald just played in his first NFL game in almost three years, but how did he fare compared to his last outing before retirement?

With his first game back in almost three years, Aaron Donald was never going to deliver a vintage performance after such a lengthy layoff.
But few would have expected him to deliver the exact same numbers as he did in his final game against the Detroit Lions.
Of course, the circumstances across both games were very different. For starters, the Rams’ game against the Lions was a playoff game, whereas last night’s game was just a regular-season affair.
The Rams lost to the Lions in the playoffs that year, with Donald failing to make much of an impression on the defensive end despite being one of the best defensive players in the league.
After a strong season with the Rams, where he had 53 tackles, such a quiet and subdued performance from the three-time AP Defensive Player of the Year was very surprising.
Compare this to last night, Donald looked a lot better, considering that he hadn’t played a single snap of football in 31 months.
If this is the weakest performance that Donald has this season, the Rams will be thrilled, as it will allow him to grow into his old form and become one of the most impactful defensive players in the league again.
The numbers from both outings might be the exact same, but the circumstances give both performances entirely different meanings.
As the season goes on, Donald is sure to grow in confidence. And the opportunity to play alongside other defensive stalwarts like Myles Garrett will give them a huge opportunity.
With a combined five Defensive Player of the Year awards between them, Garrett and Donald could form the most imposing defensive duo in the league.
