Vandy beats NC State 35-31 in the stupidest way possible

Vanderbilt battled back from a 24-7 second-half deficit behind Jared Curtis and had a chance to take the lead behind 31-28 in the final minute of the game, when Curtis threw an interception rather than setting up a game-tying field goal.

Game over, right? NC State failed to get a first down, however, and took a delay of game penalty with 7 seconds left. And then the most glorious stupid ending to a college football game happened.

Yes, that’s right: NC State’s CJ Bailey dropped back into the end zone to run out the clock and probably take an intentional safety, only Miles Capers knocked the ball loose before he got around to taking a safety, and Cayden Daniels fell on the ball for a game-winning touchdown.

Curtis, in his first career start, went 20-of-34 with 277 yards, 3 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Vanderbilt heads into SEC play with a 3-0 record, somehow.
