Taylor Snively began her IHSAA girls golf state title defense in record-setting fashion Friday, scoring a 12-under 59 at the Sectional 15 championship hosted by West Chase Golf Club in Brownsburg.

That's the lowest 18-hole score ever recorded in an IHSAA postseason event, well clear of the 62 posted by Northwood's Cybil Stillson at Noble Hawk in 2021 (regional) and the sectional record-tying 63 Snively shot at West Chase as a freshman.
The Zionsville junior finished her round with three eagles, seven birdies and a bogey, and was well-positioned to win a third consecutive sectional crown.
The Eagles finished with a team score of 266.
Snively enters this year's tournament looking to join Carmel's Martha Foyer (1979-81) and Martinsville's Leigh Anne Hardin (1997-99) as the only golfers in IHSAA history to win three consecutive state championships.
"Taylor is one of my golf role models," senior teammate Paige Henney said earlier this season. "Her mentality, the way she approaches the game, the way she approaches every practice, every shot — she's so thorough with her routine. She practices with a purpose. She plays golf with a purpose. (And) she always has a goal in mind. It's the smart way to play golf."
As a team, the Eagles are looking to become the first to win three straight team titles in a decade (Evansville North, 2014-16).
Zionsville's regional is scheduled for next Friday at Harrison Hills Golf Course in Lafayette. That's a change from previous seasons, with Battle Ground GC hosting this year's state meet due to weather-related damage at Prairie View GC in Carmel.
Snively carded a 2-under 70 to place third at last year's regional. She tied for third as a freshman.
