Insider Reveals Exciting Dynamics Between Kyrie Irving and Cooper Flagg Despite Limited Workout

Cooper Flagg had a splendid rookie season, convincingly proving why he was the Dallas Mavericks’ No. 1 overall pick.

He won Rookie of the Year and emerged as the team’s leading scorer, averaging 21 points per game. Naji Marshall was a distant second at 15 points per game.
Flagg carried himself well despite being new to the league, accomplishing all of this without a legitimate, star-level point guard alongside him. His veteran teammates who were expected to make an impact also missed a significant number of games.
The upcoming season could be much different for the phenomenal Duke standout, as Kyrie Irving is set to rejoin the team.
The nine-time All-Star suffered an injury before the end of the 2024-25 season and decided to sit out the remainder of the campaign. He has since recovered and has been spotted participating in various workouts and basketball clinics.
Brooklyn Nets forward Michael Porter Jr. recently provided an update on Irving, giving Mavs fans plenty of reason to be excited.
“I was hooping with him yesterday, and this is off of his ACL,” Porter said three weeks ago in his own podcast titled Curious Mike.
“That dude was so cold, bro. I couldn’t believe how he was moving out there. And he was getting to the lane; there were all footers in there, and he somehow was with the left. Bro, it was nutty. It was crazy.”

New Mavs coach Dusty May is among those excited about Irving’s return. The front office has also reportedly rejected trade offers for the 2016 champion, expressing its excitement about seeing the dynamics between Uncle Drew and Flagg.
The pair finally had an opportunity to work out together this offseason, according to Mark Medina of RG.org. So far, things appear to be going well between them.
“Kyrie and Cooper have had an opportunity to spend a little time together this offseason,” MacKenzie said.
“Obviously, they are two very high-IQ basketball players. I think they complement each other really well. I know that Kyrie has a ton of respect for the player that Cooper is.”

The reporter also teased that the Mavs season might be an exciting one because of the two players.
“Just like Coach May, he wants to continue to help Cooper take that next step in his career,” he added. “I think that there are very positive things to look forward to, hopefully with the on-court chemistry with those two.”
