Fans were eager to see how Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Ja’Kobi Lane would fare in his debut. But what was supposed to be a celebratory evening for Lane turned into a forgettable one.

The 22-year-old rookie wanted to make an immediate impact in their game against the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium. Lane scored on a four-yard touchdown in the second quarter, but it was overturned after a holding penalty was called against Ravens offensive lineman Jovaughn Gwyn.

Just a few players later, Lane suffered a wrist injury, which sidelined him for the rest of the contest.

While the Ravens beat the Colts, 41-23, it does not look good for Lane, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

“The initial diagnosis on Ravens rookie WR Ja’Kobi is a fractured wrist suffered in today’s win over the #Colts, sources say. He’ll undergo further testing, including an MRI, tomorrow to determine the full extent of the injury,” wrote Garafolo on X.

Lane finished with one reception for 11 yards.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, meanwhile, added that the Ravens will “lose their promising rookie for several weeks.”

Lane’s wrist injury further hurt Baltimore, which also lost Ravens wide receiver Zay Flowers to a hamstring injury in the first half after notching a career-high 150 yards and a touchdown on five receptions.

Lane, whom Baltimore drafted in the third round out of USC, was impressive in training camp, showcasing his athleticism, upside, and competitiveness.

Ravens coach Jesse Minter described the young pass-catcher as a “friendly target,” as quoted by The Baltimore Banner’s Giana Han.

Baltimore will face the New Orleans Saints in Week 2.
