Harish Rawat quits Congress posts after ED recovers cash, gold from his assistant

Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister and Congress leader Harish Rawat on Saturday resigned from two party posts after the Enforcement Directorate said that it recovered cash, jewellery and other valuables from the possession of his personal assistant, Chandan Singh Jeena.

The ED on Thursday conducted searches in Dehradun in connection with alleged irregularities in the 2016 Uttarakhand Subordinate Service Selection Commission Gram Panchayat Vikas Adhikari examination. The agency said that it recovered Rs 32 lakh in unaccounted cash, 13 gold coins, seven gold chains weighing around 200.5 gm, and 12 luxury watches from the premises of Jeena.

During Rawat’s tenure as the chief minister from 2014 to 2017, Jeena had served as his officer on special duty.
