New update: Coach Arthur Zwane to Bafana Bafana

ARTHUR ZWANE COULD HAVE UNIQUE BAFANA BAFANA ROLE
Zwane has not yet been appointed, with his contract with SAFA still being finalised.
Under the proposed arrangement, the former Kaizer Chiefs coach would remain in charge of AmaZulu FC, where he is committed to the club’s project.
His involvement with the national teams would be part-time around his full-time duties at Usuthu.
Zwane’s primary responsibility would be to monitor the youth national teams, particularly the Under-23 side. He will also keeping an eye on young players in the domestic league who are ready to step up to senior international football.
ZWANE TO HELP IDENTIFY YOUNG TALENT
He revered known for his eye for talent and experience in developing young players.
Zwane could play an important role in identifying the next generation of South Africa players.
He would help monitor emerging talent and potentially ease their transition into the senior national team setup.
The proposed arrangement would allow SAFA to add Zwane’s local knowledge to Mosimane’s technical team without taking him away from his responsibilities at AmaZulu FC.
SAFA is expected to finalise and announce the new-look South Africa technical structure in due course.
South Africa will begin their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaign under new head coach Pitso Mosimane before facing Egypt in an international friendly.
South Africa will open their AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign against Guinea on Saturday, 26 September 2026.
The match will be played at Orlando Stadium (Orlando Amstel Arena) in Soweto, with kick-off scheduled for 15:00 SAST.
BAFANA BAFANA FACE ERITREA IN SECOND QUALIFIER
Bafana Bafana will then travel to Cairo to face Eritrea on Wednesday, 30 September 2026.
The second qualifying match is scheduled for the Al-Salam Stadium in Egypt, with kick-off at 18:00 SAST.
The national team will remain in Cairo after the qualifier for a high-profile friendly against Egypt.
SOUTH AFRICA TO FACE EGYPT
Mosimane’s side will take on the hosts at the Cairo International Stadium on Sunday, 4 October 2026.
The friendly is scheduled to kick off at 20:00. It will give Mosimane another opportunity to assess his squad as he begins his new era with the national team.
The three matches will provide Bafana Bafana with an early test under their new head coach. The the AFCON qualifiers will carry the competitive priority.
