Despite chronic back pain that has affected his mobility, Leon Schuster has revealed that he is working on a new movie in collaboration with Netflix

The actor and comedian injured himself in 2023 while filming Mr Bones 3, which was released a year later.
Since then, he has undergone extensive surgery and rehabilitation.
In recent months, the 75-year-old, who was awarded the National Arts and Culture Awards’ Lifetime Achievement Award, has also been open about suffering from depression and loneliness.
LEON SCHUSTER CONFIRMS NEW MOVIE IS ON THE WAY
Appearing on the studio at KwaZulu-Natal digital radio station PlayZN this week, Leon Schuster said he was in Durban to work on the screenplay for an upcoming production.
When pressed for details, the beloved TV actor said, “I’m writing a movie now. We’ve got a contract from Netflix. It’s a very difficult movie, but I pitched the idea, and they liked it”
Referring to his ailing physical health, he continued: “I’m going to play it 50% in the wheelchair, because I can’t walk far with my back.
Schuster’s last movie was Mr Bones 3, released in 2024, during which he injured his back.
He has not shared any details about the new film’s storyline or release date.

A year ago, DStv officially lifted the five-year ban on the movies, many of which Schuster was accused of appropriating other races and practising the controversial act of blackface.
South Africa’s funnyman is known for his onscreen candid-camera pranks and diverse characters throughout his career spanning almost four decades.
However, Leon Schuster revealed that he had no ill intent.
He said at news of the ban in 2020: “I try to bring people together with laughter. There is no race in my heart. I don’t see black, white, pink, or purple – I just see a person.
“If they are in my region when I do candid camera, I go for whoever it is… I don’t have a preference for one race”.
