Senior Bridget Frye becomes 5th Mosinee player to eclipse 1,000 kills

MOSINEE – Mosinee senior Bridget Frye has never been one to seek the spotlight.
So it was fitting that when the Mosinee senior reached 1,000 career kills — a milestone achieved by just four other players in program history — it served less as a destination than a reminder of how far she has come.

Mosinee coach Justin Jacobs has watched her grow exponentially from a modest freshman, to sophomore year as a captain, all the way to etching her name in Mosinee’s record books as one of the Indians most dominant attackers.
“She has a quiet confidence,” Jacobs said. “She doesn't ever seek attention. She doesn't want the accolades, but she's just constantly going about doing what she needs to do and leading with that confidence and making sure that everyone knows what's expected and what we need to be doing.
“It's just fun to see these kids grow up and what they can grow into over just the span of a couple short years.
Jacobs said the summer leading into her freshman year, you could really see her start to gel with some of those older members of the team. She wasn’t much of a vocal leader, but “she definitely made her presence known early on with what she was able to do offensively,” Jacobs said.
“She’s in her third year as captain for us. The biggest thing is just leading by example. She’s always there, always setting the tone for what we want to accomplish, and not shying away from those lofty goals that we have. She's vocal about where we want to end our season, and it's good to see that we're not afraid of putting ourselves out there. That's something we want to accomplish.”
Frye snatched her 1,000th kill in a 3-0 match victory of Lakeland to help Mosinee improve to 12-0 on the season. Some of those lofty goals Jacobs mentioned include Mosinee snatching their first WIAA volleyball state championship in program history.
Though beyond this year, Jacobs doesn't want Frye to lose sight of the magnitude of her milestone.
“So many kids understand the team goals and really want to see the team succeed, especially from late October into early November. And a lot of them don't look for that accolade, and don't feel like they-I don't know what word I’m looking for here-but don't necessarily crave it or need it,” Jacobs said.
“But she's just constantly working towards that team goal so much that you just want to see them celebrate themselves sometimes, and have people recognize what they've been doing. Because it’s been special.”
