Baltimore Ravens: Add Former 3rd-Round Pick With 25 Starts to Squad

· Yahoo Sports

The Baltimore Ravens’ offensive tackle depth, aside from starters Ronnie Stanley and Roger Rosengarten, is thin and inexperienced. Swing tackle Carson Vinson played just seven snaps at left tackle in his rookie season, while Emery Jones Jr., who played right tackle at LSU, has primarily played at guard to date, including all 136 snaps at either left or right guard this preseason. In addition, practice squad players A.J. Arcuri and Gerad Christian-Lichtenhan have played sparingly, with Arcuri starting just one game while Christian-Lichtenhan has yet to play in a single regular-season game.

According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the Ravens planned to sign Chuma Edoga on Wednesday, with the news becoming official on Thursday, and he is now a member of the practice squad, adding veteran experience. Edoga brings positional versatility, having started 25 games at offensive tackle and guard throughout his first seven NFL seasons. He can be elevated to the game-day roster three times without penalty; otherwise, a fourth elevation would require a promotion to the active roster.

The Jacksonville Jaguars signed Chuma Edoga to a two-year, $7 million contract last March. Edoga competed against Anton Harrison for the starting right tackle job but lost. He started two games as an extra offensive lineman and logged five snaps at left tackle, two at left guard, two at right guard, 43 at right tackle, and 44 as an extra offensive lineman, per PFF.

Edoga competed for a roster spot this offseason but was unable to make the initial 53-man roster, prompting the Jaguars to release him during roster cuts.
