The Buccaneers cruised to a comfortable win, extending their lead at the top of the Betway Premiership to three points.

Lungu opened the scoring for Pirates but was unable to continue after picking up an injury shortly afterwards. The 25-year-old was stretchered off the pitch, with Oswin Appollis introduced as his replacement.

The full extent of Lungu’s injury is not yet known, with the Pirates medical team expected to provide further clarity once the player has been assessed.

There has been speculation that the attacker could have suffered a hamstring injury, although this has not been officially confirmed.

Lungu has quickly become a fan favourite since arriving at Pirates and has already scored five goals for the club. His impressive performances have seen him emerge as one of the standout signings of the season.

An extended absence would be a major blow for head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, who has shown tremendous faith in Lungu and utilised him in different positions.

The Buccaneers will be particularly anxious about the injury given their upcoming MTN8 final against Mamelodi Sundowns next month.

Lungu has been the best player at Pirates

Should Lungu face a lengthy six-to-12-week layoff, it could rule him out of the highly anticipated final and leave the Buccaneers without one of their most influential players.

Pirates now turn their attention to the CAF Champions league.

Will this affect Pirates’ momentum?
