High school girls volleyball: Provo overcomes shaky 3rd set to get the win over Mountain View

It wasn’t as smooth sailing as they maybe would have liked, but in the end, Provo got the win over Mountain View in four sets 25-17, 25-26, 26-28, and 25-19 Tuesday night.
Provo has made easy work of its opponents so far this season coming into its game against Mountain View. Prior to this matchup, Provo had yet to drop a single set, and it looked like the Bulldogs were on their way once again to a quick, sweeping victory.

Looking in complete control after the first two sets, Provo showed some vulnerability in the 3rd set, giving Mountain View a window of hope that it took advantage of.
Provo bounced back quite nicely after dropping its first set of season and had no problem seeing the match out.
“They were calm and composed in the 4th and did a really good job. We have really good leadership on our team. A lot of really good seniors, and so, yeah, we just need to take care of business on our side,” said Provo head coach Stefanie Magalei.
While the team may have still been able to get the win on the night and they were positives to take away, Magalei was far from pleased with her team’s performance and knows they need to play much better in the coming weeks.
“We were really sloppy and undisciplined today. We have a lot to work on. In the third set, we didn’t serve very aggressively. We need to be able to hit our targets, and we need to serve aggressively,” Magalei said.
“I told the team in the huddle after the game, ‘well done for the W,’ but we are gonna absolutely go back to the drawing board tomorrow. I wasn’t pleased with it at all.”
The biggest thing that Magalei wants her team to take away from this performance is that even though they managed to still get the win, the team cannot afford to get complacent and to strive to always want more.
“I think the biggest lesson that we can take out of this game is not to get complacent and not to settle, and we need to start off fast against every team. What I like is that our team is gritty and they just like to hustle,” the coach said.
“Our ball control is on point, and we have a lot of different options and a lot of different weapons. Overall, every player is really versatile, and I’m asking a lot of them this year and I know it’ll come together.”
