The New York Yankees did not land an upgrade at catcher during the trade deadline, balking at high asking prices. 

And while Austin Wells has been hitting much better over the last month, the Yankees would be wise to attempt to acquire a catcher in the upcoming offseason. 

The most popular name at the catcher's position in the trade market was Colorado Rockies All-Star backstop Hunter Goodman. 

Colorado's front office set a very high asking price for the slugger, who has 36 home runs with an .865 OPS in his age 26 season. 

FanSided's Robert Murray wrote Tuesday that a Goodman trade is not out of the question this winter. Goodman is a top name to watch in the offseason trade market. 

"Behind the plate, however, is where teams had concerns, and it impacted his market at the deadline. Still, a player of Goodman’s caliber offensively, especially at a premium position, is rarely available," Murray wrote. "And if [William] Contreras is indeed moved over the winter, could a team that misses out on him step up and acquire Goodman?"

If the Rockies prefer not to trade Goodman, the Yankees could pivot to Contreras from the Milwaukee Brewers. 

Either backstop would be an offensive upgrade in New York's left-handed-dominant lineup. 

Logistically, Wells would become the backup catcher in the Bronx.
