Ashfield, 20, underwent a medical during Posh's goalless draw with League One opponents Stevenage on Tuesday evening and his transfer was confirmed before the 11pm transfer deadline.
Ashfield, who was called up to Wales Under-21 squad in February, spent the second half of last season on loan at Cheltenham Town and has now left Wrexham on a permanent basis in making the switch to London Road.
The midfielder made nine appearances for the Red Dragons, but his only Championship outing came on New Year's Day as a substitute in a 2-0 win over Blackburn Rovers.
"It has been a crazy 24 hours and I am delighted it is over the line," Ashfield said.
"The way that the club is run and how they view young players, I am absolutely delighted to be here.
"This club gives young players opportunity; I can't wait to get started and to show the fans what I am about.
"I spoke to a few of the players that have played here before, like Jack Marriott, about the club, and they were really positive, so now it is about looking forward to getting on the training pitch with the lads."
Meanwhile, Feeney came through the youth ranks at Fleetwood before joining Villa in 2021, but although he has played eight times at under-21 level, he has yet to make a senior appearance for the Premier League club.
The 21-year-old former England youth international is set for a third successive season in League One following 31 appearances in all competitions for Huddersfield Town last season, and 39 with Shrewsbury in 2024-25.
"I have played a decent number of games in the EFL now," Feeney told the Posh website.
"When I first went out on loan, it did take a little while to adjust to the physicality because it is a lot different to under-21 football, but I feel I am used to it now and I am looking forward to helping the group win matches and move up the table."
Peterborough manager Luke Williams added: "Josh is a player that has already got plenty of EFL experience under his belt and we believe he will give us additional strength in our defensive options.
"He is a good size, likes defending, but also has that ability to play and as a management team, we are looking forward to working with him."
