Allison Havemann-Niedrach, 45, of Jackson Township, was sentenced to 12 years in jail for the sex crimes, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago said in a statement on Monday.
The mother of two was accused of having sex with the boy at hotels and her own home over six months beginning in January 2024.
Havemann-Niedrach was arrested that June after investigators discovered “many thousands of text messages” between her and the victim.
What was said at the sentencing hearing
The student, who was not identified, told the court during her sentencing hearing on Friday that the six months of abuse was “like a nightmare,” adding that he was having trouble in high school after other students learned about the ordeal, the Asbury Park Press reported.
“For two or three years, I thought it was my fault,” he told the court, per the outlet.
“I forgive her for what she did,” the boy added, prompting the former educator to begin sobbing.
“I apologize profusely for my actions,” Havemann-Niedrach said in her own statement, adding that she was “moved by his forgiveness.”
When did the probe begin?
Authorities began investigating when the school’s vice principal reported concerns about Havemann-Niedrach’s relationship with the teen after another teacher claimed to have seen her rubbing his neck and back, touching his leg, and flirting, prosecutors said.
The boy’s mother told investigators that she had become concerned about her son after his sister saw him sitting in the teacher’s car and noticed he was on his phone late into the night.
She eventually brought her son to the police station, where he admitted to the sexual relationship.
Havemann-Niedrach was charged with first-degree aggravated sexual assault and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
She pleaded guilty this past January to first-degree aggravated sexual assault.
Assistant Prosecutor Danielle Zanzuccki testified in court in July 2024 that there were more than 25,000 text messages between the teacher and the teen, with the teen even telling a friend that the two were dating.
“I would submit that she’s obsessed with this child,” Zanzuccki said at the time.
Judge blasts the former teacher
Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Jill G. O’Malley didn’t mince words when it came time to sentence the former Freehold Intermediate School special education teacher.
“You are his trauma,” she said, noting that the teen had thought about taking his own life in the summer of 2024, the Asbury Park Press reported.
“You ruined him,” the judge added.
Havemann-Niedrach was ordered to serve a minimum of 85% of the term before the possibility of parole.
